The study was small and the long-term effects of the amino acid were not analyzed, but this finding does counter anecdotal evidence that the supplement can cut hunger and cravings.

What is Beta-alanine?

Beta-alanine is not an essential amino acid. It means that this amino acid can be created by your body. You don’t have to acquire it from food and other dietary sources. Your body uses this amino acid as a precursor to manufacture another amino acid known as carnosine.  It is normally stored in muscles and brain and helps the body to reduce fatigue. It is stored in the brain and muscles. It helps reduce fatigue by combining with another essential amino acid called L-Histidine.

In a clinical study, patients with heart failure were given 2.25 grams of astragalus twice daily for two weeks, along with conventional treatment. They experienced greater improvements in heart function compared to those receiving standard treatment alone.

In another study, patients with heart failure received 60 grams per day of astragalus by IV along with conventional treatment. They also had more significant improvements in symptoms than those receiving standard treatment alone.
